Outdoor Adventure Group Abbott’s Lagoon /Point Reyes Hike and Bird Watching
Sunday, July 26 - 11:00 AM
This 3.5-mile hike out to the beach and back is in the Pt. Reyes. National Seashore. Planned by Mardi Leland, our enthusiastic bird watcher, who will be on hand to help us spot some birds. We will spend about two hours walking from Abbott’s Lagoon parking lot (where there are bathrooms) out to the lagoon and beach, and back. We’ll look for hawks as we’re on the trail, are sure to meet up with shorebirds and waterfowl at the lagoon, and will see wonderful brown pelicans flying over the beach. Bring water for hydration, binoculars for viewing, and layers for weather, which is unpredictable. As we will be walking on sand at the lagoon it might be wise to wear hiking boots. The restaurant is the Station House Cafe in Pt. Reyes Station, which is casual and has good food - just right for getting reacquainted after our last potluck in April. Given above timing, we should be eating around 1:30. In downtown Fairfax car pool at Fairfax Parkade off of Sir Francis Drake 9:30 a.m., In Palo Alto car pool out of 280/Page Mill Park & Ride at 8:20 a.m. Click here to RSVP.
Directions: From 101 N. take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. exit and continue on SFD to Olema. Follow signs to hiway 1 North/Sir Francis Drake. Take the 2nd left turn (SFD going West) and continue through Inverness. At the intersection of SFD (SFD veers left) and Pierce Point Rd., continue straight ahead on Pierce Point Rd. Go approximately 2 + miles and the Abbott’s Lagoon parking area will be on the left side. Alternatively, you can take 101 N. to Smith Ranch/Lucas Valley Rd exit and follow Lucas Valley Rd. to Pt.
