About the event
Wednesday, 30 July – North Berkeley Rocks Park Walk, 10 to Noon
Let’s meet at the John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre, 41 Somerset Pl, Berkeley. Rodney Paul will be our tour guide on the walk of some 2 miles at a moderate pace. Children and dogs are allowed on the walk but it may not be ideally suited for them. The terrain includes some dirt paths that may be difficult for people using mobility devices. Moderate fitness necessary for an uphill segment through Hinkel Park.
Millions of years before its first human inhabitants arrived, North Berkeley was strewn with fascinating rock formations. Today, the area includes a set of lovely parks where these remnants of its geologic past can be seen. We'll talk about the Native American presence in the area and how the rocks were used by these first inhabitants. We'll also discuss the creation of the parks and their role…
